The Chrysler Group today announced pricing for the all-new 2008 Jeep® Liberty. Completely redesigned from the ground up, the mid-size SUV features classic Jeep exterior styling paired with a functional interior, increased cargo length and rear seat legroom, and the industry-exclusive Sky Slider™ full-length, open-canvas roof.

The base manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the all-new Jeep Liberty is $27,695, not including $1,300 destination. Three models, all 4 x 4, are available: Jeep Liberty Sport, Jeep Liberty North Edition and Jeep Liberty Limited. The Jeep Liberty will begin to arrive in dealerships later this summer.

"The all-new 2008 Jeep Liberty is a critical next step in our Jeep product offensive," said Judy Wheeler, Vice President Marketing, DaimlerChrysler Canada. "Our goal with the new Liberty is to leverage a lower MSRP price and our 4 x 4 leadership to appeal to a wider range of Canadians who desire an authentic sport utility vehicle."

Standard on all models is a 3.7-litre SOHC V-6 engine that generates 210 horsepower (157 kW) at 5,200 rpm and 235 lb.-ft. (319 N·m) of torque at 4,000 rpm. On-road ride and handling is improved with the addition of a new independent front and new five-link rear suspension systems.

The 2008 Jeep Liberty has a full range of active and passive safety systems. Among the vehicle’s standard equipment are side-curtain air bags, Electronic Stability Program, Electronic Roll Mitigation, all-speed Traction Control, Brake Assist, advanced anti-lock brakes and tire pressure monitoring. Available options include rain-sensing wipers and ParkSense Rear Park Assist System.

Staying true to legendary Jeep heritage, all Jeep Liberty models come with a low-range and standard Command-Trac II Part-Time four wheel drive system. Optional on all Liberty models is Selec-Trac® II -- the most advanced four-wheel-drive system available in its segment.

Command-Trac® II Part-Time is a shift-on-the-fly, fully electronic system that provides peace of mind with available four-wheel-drive capability delivered through a two-speed transfer case for use on slippery or loose surfaces such as snow, mud or sand.

The all-new Selec-Trac® II full-time, active on-demand system anticipates and prevents wheel slip before it occurs. The system is ideal for a range of road settings, including dry pavement conditions not typically suited for conventional part-time four-wheel-drive systems typically seen on competitors.

MSRP for the Jeep Liberty Sport is $27,695 (not including $1,300 destination). Compared to the previous generation, the new Jeep Liberty Sport offers significant additional content, but the MSRP has been reduced by $2,695. The Sky Slider roof is made of a reinforced-acrylic cloth, similar to a convertible top, that is weather resistant and leak proof. The top panel nests into a weather strip seal to help minimize wind noise. The roof uses anti-pinch software that prevents the roof from moving should it detect an object in its path. Audi R8 will have a starting price of $139,000 when it goes on sale in September

Audi Canada has announced the starting price of its new Audi R8 sports car. The R8 will start at $139,000 for the mid-engined, quattro all-wheel drive equipped, aluminum sports car.

Audi has incorporated the name and the genes of the five-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, the Audi R8, into a spectacular sports car. As the first Audi mid-engined sports car, the R8 combines Audi's experience gained from numerous motorsport triumphs with groundbreaking design and the acknowledged technological expertise of the brand.

The mid-mounted V8 FSI engine, quattro permanent all-wheel drive and Audi Space Frame aluminum body form the basis for truly outstanding driving dynamics. At 7,800 rpm the 4.2-liter engine delivers 420 hp of power output. Peak torque is 317 ft.-lbs. from 4.500 to 6,000 rpm. No less than 90 percent of this maximum torque is maintained consistently throughout a wide engine speed range from 3,500 all the way to 7,600 rpm.

The performance figures are equally impressive: the R8 accelerates from a standstill to 100 kph in 4.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 301 kph. Among the multitude of unique design fixtures found on the R8, the integrated side blade, which is available in three different and distinct styles, allows for greater personalization while giving the body contour and texture. The aerodynamics experts at Audi have done their work so thoroughly on the R8 that, as an added benefit of its elegant shape, the body actually produces a downforce - unlike many other sports cars.

The ability to personalize the vehicle to the customer's personal preferences continues with the interior, where a wide array of options such as the 12 speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, trim options to accent the exterior, and a variety of perfectly accentuated leather colours are available. Customers in Canada will also be able to choose from a wide array of Audi R8 branded merchandise and luxury goods including a specially fitted R8 luggage set, a unique R8 watch and more.

Audi R8 will go on sale in Canada this September.

Acura MDX earned the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s “Top Safety Pick” for 2007

The new 2007 Acura MDX earned the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s “Top Safety Pick” award for 2007. The award recognizes vehicles that perform best in protecting passengers in front, rear and side crashes based on ratings in the Institute’s tests.  The all-new 2007 Acura RDX luxury crossover-utility vehicle (CUV) also received this award in earlier testing.

The new Acura MDX, built at the Honda of Canada Mfg. facility in Alliston, Ontario, is equipped with the latest safety technologies. Like the entire Acura lineup, it features the application of front side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), side curtain airbags for front and rear outboard seats and Vehicle Stability Assistas standard equipment. In addition, MDX utilizes Advanced Compatibility Engineering(ACE) body structure which helps to disperse collision forces over a larger frontal area.

The MDX also features Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system that actively distributes the optimum amount of torque not only between the front and rear axles, but also between the left and right rear wheels.  The SH-AWD system is designed to improve traction and reduce understeer for improved handling and safety.

Working in conjunction with the MDX’s standard Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control, Acura’s SH-AWD is designed to provide enhanced traction and driver control, on- or off-road, in rain, snow or ice. When towing, special Trailer Stability Assist algorithms built into the Vehicle Stability Assist logic help stabilize the vehicle after sensing oscillations of the vehicle and trailer system.

2008 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable earn “Top Safety Pick” ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

The 2008 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable will arrive in showrooms this summer bearing Top Safety Pick ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the government’s highest available five-star ratings in all crash test categories.

The IIHS' "Top Safety Pick" rating can only be earned by vehicles that achieve the best-available safety performance in frontal, side and rear collisions and offer electronic stability control.  In addition to being the only large family cars to merit IIHS' Top Safety Pick rating, these sedans stand alone for also earning five-star driver and passenger crash test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

“It’s a true testament to the safety engineering of these vehicles that they achieved top crash test ratings from both IIHS and NHTSA,” said Sue Cischke, senior vice president of Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering, Ford Motor Company.  “Ford and Volvo worked together to leverage our technical and intellectual resources to create this outstanding vehicle architecture, and now it's better than ever.  These cars offer it all: safety, power, spaciousness, comfort and great features, all at a great value."

The Insurance Institute also gave both vehicles its highest rear impact rating for offering effective protection against neck injuries, as well as its highest front and side impact ratings for withstanding intrusion into the occupant compartment.

The structure of the Taurus and Sable is engineered with crush zones designed to direct excess energy around the passenger compartment into a high-strength safety cage.  An innovative cross-car beam “SPACETM Architecture” under the front seats reinforces the structure between the B-pillars, which helps direct energy away from passengers.

Both vehicles offer an industry first two-row Safety Canopy™ side air bag system that provides additional protection not only in side impact collisions, but also deploys in rollover accidents.  Side-impact protection comes from a combination of air bag technology and structural features that help safeguard occupants from intrusion by channeling crash energy away from the passenger compartment.

An advanced air bag controller uses front passenger classification sensing to determine if the seat is occupied, and if so, whether the passenger is a larger or smaller person.  Air bag deployment is tailored – or altogether suppressed – to help provide an appropriate level of protection.  The lower anchors and tethers for children, or LATCH system, provide mounting points for compatible child seats in the second row.

Both cars are available with AdvanceTrac® electronic stability control and all-wheel drive to provide drivers with a confident ride and smooth handling in all weather conditions.  All Ford, Lincoln and Mercury retail cars and trucks will have standard electronic stability control by the end of 2009.  ESC currently is standard on all Ford sport utility and crossover vehicles.

Ford Motor Company and its global brands have built more than 4 million vehicles globally with electronic stability control systems.  More than one million of those vehicles feature Ford's industry exclusive AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control, the world's only system with two gyroscopic sensors to actively measure and help control both yaw and roll movements.

“We believe our electronic stability control systems enhance vehicle safety by helping the driver prevent many accidents from occurring in the first place,” Cischke said.  “Making families safer is a key part of our pledge to drive safety innovation.

AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control is standard equipment on most 2007 model year Ford Motor Company SUVs and crossovers.  ESC will be standard on the 2008 model year Taurus X.

Pricing starts at $30,899.00.
