Brief test report can be viewed at Mazda3 Sport's webpage

Probably the most exciting compact car introduced or to be introduced this year, the all-new Mazda3 will have a starting price of $16,195 when it replaces the Protege late this November.

2 body styles will be offered: a conventional 4-door sedan known as the Mazda3 and a 4-door hatchback known as the Mazda3 Sport.

The Mazda3 sedan is available in 3 trims: GX, GS and GT.

Basic GX trim starts at $16,195 and includes a 148 hp, 2.0-litre, DOHC, 4-cylinder engine, 15-inch wheels, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, 4-wheel disc brakes and electronic brake force distribution. A Convenience package option adds a CD player, 2 additional speakers, power door locks, remote keyless entry and steering wheel mounted audio controls.

GS trim, available from $17,695, has all of the above and the following additional features: Alloy wheels, rain sensing wipers, height adjustable driver's seat, lumbar support and vanity mirror. Optional Power package adds power windows, cruise control and colour-keyed heated power mirrors. Optional Sport package adds 16-inch alloy wheels, ABS and moonroof.

GT starting at $21,345 is equipped with a 2.3-litre, 160 hp 4-cylinder engine, 16-inch tires, ABS, CD, PW, PDL, heated mirrors, leather steering wheel, fog lights and A/C. Optional GFX package offers 17-inch alloys, moonroof and unique bumpers, side sills and front grille.

The Mazda3 Sport is offered in 2 trim levels: GS and GT, both comes with a 2.3-litre, 160 hp 4-cylinder engine.

Mazda3 Sport GS starts at $20,185 and includes 16-inch alloy wheels, ABS, PDL, PW, CD, cruise and remote keyless entry.

Mazda3 Sport GT starts at $21,385 and adds 17-inch wheels and tires, 2 more speakers, leather steering wheel, heated mirrors and rear spoiler.

Mazda3 can also be optioned with a GFX package, as shown in my above test car. Priced at $1095, the GFX package includes 17-inch alloy wheels, moonroof, fog lights and unique bumper, sills and grille.
