Acura MDX Text sourced from Honda Canada Inc.
"The redesigned luxury MDX is competitively priced for the Canadian market with the host of product improvements such as Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, Active Damper System and Acura’s highest-output V6 engine to date," said Jim Miller, executive vice president, Honda Canada Inc. Benchmarked against some of the best SUVs in the world and tuned on the famed Nürburgring track in Germany, the completely redesigned and re-engineered 2007 Acura MDX expands on the capabilities and appeal of its highly successful predecessor. With substantial advances in power, handling, traction, luxury, style and safety, the MDX advances technology, performance and sophistication in Canada’s Luxury SUV segment to new levels. Powering the MDX’s increased performance is an all-new, 300-horsepower 3.7-litre VTEC® V6 that is the most powerful normally aspirated 6-cylinder SUV powerplant in Canada. It delivers V8-like performance with the fuel economy of a V6. The MDX provides an estimated fuel economy rating of 13.8/10.0 L/100km (city/highway), placing it among the leaders of its SUV class. It also offers low emissions. The MDX has a standard Sequential SportShift 5-speed transmission that can function in conventional fully automatic mode or in ‘manual’ mode for optimum driver control. With its standard fluid cooler, the MDX’s upgraded transmission is a key component supporting the MDX’s increased 2,268 kilogram (5,000 lbs.) tow rating. New for the second-generation MDX is Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD™) system. Mechanically similar to the system in the all-new 2007 Acura RDX, this innovative full-time all-wheel-drive system actively distributes the optimum amount of torque not only between the front and rear axles but also between the left and right wheels. SH-AWD™ is designed to improve traction and reduce understeer for improved handling precision. Working in conjunction with the MDX’s standard Cooperative Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) with traction control, SH-AWD™ provides enhanced traction and driver control, on- or off-road, in rain, snow or ice. When towing, special Trailer Stability Assist algorithms built into the VSA® logic help stabilize the vehicle after sensing oscillations of the vehicle and trailer system. The all-new MDX has distinctive exterior styling that builds on the themes embodied in recent Acura products. It MDX rides on standard 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, and is longer, lower and wider than its predecessor. Inside, the MDX features soft leather seating, highly supportive front bucket seats and a driver-oriented cockpit. The outboard second-row seats echo the style and lateral support of the front seats, giving the interior a unique 4+3 seating design, highlighting its blend of sport and utility. The all-new MDX offers standard second-row heated outboard seats. MDX has an impressive selection of standard electronic features that are designed for convenience and ease of use – a Tri-Zone automatic climate control system; a HandsFreeLink® wireless telephone interface that connects with Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones (sold separately); and a 253-watt Acura Premium Sound System with AM/FM tuner, 6-disc in-dash CD, MP3, WMA changer, XM® Satellite Radio, 8 speakers and an auxiliary jack for personal audio devices. Two optional packages are offered on the MDX – Technology and Elite. The Technology Package, with an MSRP of $56,900, features a 410-watt, 10-speaker Acura/ELS Surround™ Premium Sound System with multi-format 6-disc CD/DVD-Audio changer and XM® Satellite Radio. It also includes Acura’s Satellite Navigation System with Bilingual Voice Recognition™ and rearview camera. Also included are premium full-grain leather seating surfaces and a GPS-linked climate control system to adjust temperature according to the sun’s position. The MDX Elite Package, with an MSRP of $61,900, includes all of the upgrades of the Technology Package and adds additional features such as exclusive alloy wheel design, roof rails and auto-leveling Xenon HID headlights. An Active Damper System features fully active dampers that adjust to road conditions on a real-time basis to aid handling precision while maintaining a smooth and controlled ride. A large 9-inch flip-down colour screen for DVD videos provides entertainment for second and third row passengers. The package also includes a 115-volt AC power outlet on the center console and a remote power-operated tailgate.
